1. General information about the ECTS system
ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) facilitates the crediting of the period of studies that a student
spent in foreign university by his domestic university. The system was established in the second half of the
nineteen eighties in the frame of the Erasmus programme of that time. From that moment, the system is being
introduced by a great number of European universities, and the broadest use of this system is being observed
within the universities participating in the exchange of the students in the framework of the Socrates-Erasmus programme.
The system permits to present the programmes of studies in a clear way, which facilitates the comparison by assigning
to every subject ECTS points, which reflect the effort that a student has to put a course on credit.
